In short

Labuan Bajo Boat Builders works from the boatbuilding foreshore of Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, Flores, reachable within fifteen minutes of Komodo International Airport, which connects daily with Bali in about an hour.

  • Yard visits run by appointment on working days so a foreman is free to walk you through safely.
  • A standard visit covers builds at frame, planking and fit-out stages plus the timber store.
  • Closed shoes are required. Hard hats are provided at the gate.

Where the Yard Sits

Labuan Bajo wraps around a sheltered, island-studded bay on the western tip of Flores. The waterfront splits into three working zones: the passenger and ferry piers in the centre, the marina and liveaboard anchorages to the north, and the boatbuilding and repair foreshore where the slipways meet the tide.

Our build and launch operations sit in that third zone, close enough to the anchorage that a boat can move from final fit-out to its mooring in a single short tow.

The position is strategic rather than sentimental. Timber arrives by road and barge without transiting another port, launched hulls clear survey and enter park service the same week, and the charter fleet anchored within sight of the slipway is both our reference market and our after-sales workload.

Directions

Getting Here

Three routes in, depending on whether you are flying, already in town, or arriving on your own boat.

By air

Komodo International Airport (LBJ) receives multiple daily flights from Bali, about an hour, plus direct Jakarta services. The waterfront is a 10 to 15 minute drive from the terminal.

From the harbour

The boatbuilding foreshore is a short ride from the main pier area along the coastal road. Any local driver knows the slipway zone.

By sea

Owners arriving on their own vessels can anchor in the main roadstead and reach the yard by tender. Contact the desk for a briefing on the approach.

Visiting the Yard

Visits are by appointment so a foreman can walk you through safely. A slipway with live hoisting and caulking work is not a stroll-in space.

  • Book ahead

Message the desk before travelling. Unannounced walk-ins cannot enter working areas for safety reasons.

  • What you will see

Builds in progress at frame, planking and fit-out stages, the timber store, and where schedules allow a completed boat at the dock.

  • What to bring

Closed shoes are required on the slipway. Hard hats are provided at the gate.

  • Any time of year

The wet season from roughly December to March shifts work under cover into joinery, systems and interiors. Visits run year-round.

Prospective owners usually pair a yard visit with a day in the park, to experience the sea conditions their boat will be built for.
